We rented a car from greenmotion at Fiumicino airport. We had already paid for insurance but the company wanted a 1000 euro deposit or we could pay for additional insurance of 570 euros -a one off payment.

We took the second option paying by credit card by chip and pin. The car broke down after 4 days . We had to push it off a busy dual carriageway and called their emergency number. We were towed to a garage and there was no replacement car available which entailed us getting taxis there and back to the garage which was some distance from where we were staying.

The repairs took 8 days and after 24 hours we were given a replacement bottom of the range car.

On return to greenmotion where we thought that we should be compensated by them we were astonished to be told that we had to pay for the repair which was not covered by their insurance. They insinuated that my husband did not know how to use a clutch properly although he has been driving manual cars for over 40 years.

When we asked whether cars were checked regularly for problems they laughed and said that there was no time to do this. When we refused to pay they then threatened us by saying they would call the police. We still did not pay and had to find someone to help us get a taxi to the airport.

When we got home we found that they had taken the repair bill and more (700 euros + ) from our credit card.

This was unauthorised and the credit card company said that they had probably noted the number and security code when they took the card briefly. This company needs to have its trading suspended and be investigated.
